International wellness & spa conference 2015

For 25 years, baby boomers have shaped the wellness and spa market in Germany. But what happens now? This question and its practical consequences are the focus of an international conference of the German Wellness Association.

(Note: Generation Y or “millennials” came after the baby boomers, themselves less well known by a letter code - that is, Generation X.)

Generation Y covers people born between the 1980’s and the year 2000. Generation Y has been shaped by the technological revolution that came about during their youth. Thus, this generation grew up with technology and so are highly connected and tech savvy. They know and use gadgets, including iPhones, laptops, tablets and, it would surprise no one, maybe drones!

Unlike their stressed out boomer parents they saw devoted to corporate jobs, they value work-life balance. Familiar figures in this cohort include Jessica Simpson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Macaulay Culkin, Beyonce Knowles, Britney Spears, Justin Tmberlake, Alicia Keys, Jessica Alba, Kate Middleton, Miranda Kerr, Keira Knightley, Usain Bolt, Zac Efron, Adele, Rihanna, Emma Watson, Ed Sheeran, Miley Cirus, Justin Bieber, Harry Styles.

How can wellness and spa services better meet the expectations of and do justice to members of this generation Y? How will their interests affect the demand for traditional wellness and spa treatments? What new perspectives on wellness make sense tailored to the interests of this generation?

During the conference, all participants will engage in a creative process to explore these questions.
